OSTEOPATHY AND PHYSIOTHERAPY

Osteopathy and Physiotherapy are recognized, established system of diagnosis and treatment based on the concept that the structure of the body governs its overall function.

By addressing accumulated stresses and strains caused by birth trauma, accidents, posture and daily wear and tear, the osteopathy and physiotherapy may restore a body to a state of equilibrium, therefore helping to facilitate the body’s natural healing processes. Osteopathy and physiotherapy recognize that importance of holistic approach in achieving and maintaining good health, and the practitioner will likely consider physical, emotional and lifestyle influences in treatment.

A variety of techniques may be used to treat presenting condition. These range from rhythmic mobilization and gentle thrusting techniques producing an audible click, to gentle releasing cranial techniques, massage, passive movements, kinetic instruction and remedial exercises.

The osteopath, physiotherapist and patient work together to decide the most favourable course of treatment for the presenting condition.
Our treatments look at the body as a whole taking into consideration every aspect of a body and mind, finding out cause of a problem and treating accordingly.

A treatment would generally consist of a selection of the following:

OSTEOPATHY FOR BABIES AND CHILDREN

It is commonly believed that babies and children have no structural 'stresses' in their bodies simply because of their young age. The reality may be very different. Birth appears to be one of the most stressful events of our lives. When birth is complicated by being unduly slow or fast, enormous forces have expelled the baby against the natural resistance of the birth canal. The baby's head is compressed, twisted and moulded in order to facilitate the birth. This birth trauma may be compounded by any of the possible complications that can occur in delivery (for example the necessity for forceps assistance). After delivery the head gradually un-moulds over the next few days.In some cases, however, this process may be incomplete and this is especially so in the case of a particularly difficult or assisted birth.

In cases like this the baby may have uncomfortable stresses remaining within the head and body, and while many do cope very well, in numerous cases this stress may result in subtle changes in function leading to many developmental problems.

The gentle, skilful application of osteopathic treatment by an osteopath experienced in treating babies can often bring about a significant improvement in these distressing cases and is increasingly being considered as a treatment of choice for some conditions caused by difficult or traumatic birth.

Cranial osteopathy may help with in babies:

What problems can cranial osteopathy help with in older children?
As children grow older, problems may become apparent which may have arisen because of earlier strains or as a result of trauma such as knocks on the head or falls.

  • Infections
  • Ear infection
  • Sinus and dental problems
  • Behavioural problems and educational difficulties, and special needs
  • Headache, aches and pains
  • Asthma

Osteopathic principles, care and treatment can assist in a wide variety of conditions, either solely or alongside other disciplines.
Osteopaths care for the child as a whole person. This holistic approach encompasses all functions and influences, including the body, emotions, mind and spirit.
Most importantly, Osteopaths realise that within every child there are inherent self-healing and self-regulating mechanisms. Osteopaths assist, accelerate and enhance the natural healing process.
